<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">it has been awhile since i have posted here. ok.... almost a year but i can not think of a better reason to write a blog post than the Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge 2017. H2H is hosted by the wonderful Sarah from <a href="https://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Confessions of a Fabric Addict</a>. Sarah has done this challenge since 2011 and through H2H has donated over 400 quilts to various organizations which is simply amazing.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i have participated in H2H since Sarah stated it. i think i met Sarah through an online bee block swap back when those were super popular. Sarah has a great blog that is active and full of many fun things if you are into quilting. i decided to look back on my blog at the quilts that i have sent out through H2H to different charities.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">when Tula Pink's Moon Shine line came out (like most of her collections) i fell in love with it. the bright colors, the large scale prints, the dots...... everything about the line makes me happy. i have made a few bags from this line but i had a fat quarter set of it knowing that i wanted to make a quilt using it.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nmls2B0qoDk/VwGJCVKbnzI/AAAAAAAAEVc/nnb5VARALBQZ8vF-uuakh9S3WctNCvxwQ/s1600/IMG_4904.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nmls2B0qoDk/VwGJCVKbnzI/AAAAAAAAEVc/nnb5VARALBQZ8vF-uuakh9S3WctNCvxwQ/s400/IMG_4904.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">it's Tula and for some crazy/strange reason i have to have a quilt out of each of Tula's collections. this self imposed rule started with Neptune. i have yet to part with one of my Tula quilts so i have a collection going.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">it took me a while to figure out which quilt pattern i wanted to use for Moon Shine. i really didn't want to chop up the large scale prints into tiny pieces. i was going through my patterns and came across this one. its a pattern that a friend of mine gave me after she made it at a quilt camp years ago. i remember her being frustrated with the pattern so that is probably why i kept skipping over it when looking for a pattern.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">the pattern was a tad funky. making various units and then following the layout. it was one of the rare patterns that i actually read first several times before i even cut the fabric. i think i even might have used a highlighter on the pattern. probably why i passed it onto another quilter at camp. lol. i quilted it with a diamond pattern made from straight lines quilted diagonally across the quilt. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">the front of the quilt used all of the bright fabric so i used the remaining fat quarters as well as some additional Tula fabric for the pieced backing. i had one unit left over that wasn't used on the front so i sewed it into the back. just shaking it up a bit.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">this is one of my favorite quilts right now. i need to get it trimmed and bound. also, this is my 6th quilt that i have quilted this year out of the 10 quilt tops that i started with. i have 2 quilt tops that i didn't get finished at quilt camp last month that i am going to get put together then i will start quilting quilt #7. it will be an adventure to say the least. come back and see how i quilted it.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">happy sewing</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">another quilt that i finished the quilting on is my Prince Charming Dwell quilt. the pattern is Dwell from <a href="http://www.camilleroskelley.typepad.com/" target="_blank">Camille Roskelley</a> and i used <a href="http://www.tulapink.com/" target="_blank">Tula Pink's</a> Prince Charming fabric line for it. i only made 9 houses so its a nice wall hanging size.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i had fun quilting this one with various quilting patterns and thread changes. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">here is the back of the quilt. not a very good picture but you can kind of see the quilting that i did on the houses. i did a stipple in the negative space and i also added some smoke waves coming out of each chimney.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i love this line of fabric. it is one of my favorites from Tula. it should look great in my future sewing area next to my <a href="http://renegadequilter.blogspot.com/2016/02/ramblings-and-such.html" target="_blank">Neptune sewing machine</a> quilt wall hanging.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">this is my 5th quilt that i have quilted this year out of the 10 quilt tops i started with. i quilted this while i was at a friends house for a short weekend. i also got my Moonshine quilt finished there too. i will post about that one next. that leaves me with 4 tops left to quilt and i have saved the larger ones for the end. the next one i have ready to go is my Tula Pink log cabin Beads quilt. i am going to be trying something new with that one..... wish me luck.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i have also been to quilt camp since i last blogged so i will need to do a post on that trip as well. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">things were going along well for me. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i was making progress on getting my 10 quilt tops quilted. 2 finished and working on the quilting for top number 3 and thinking about the quilting for number 4 </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">so i would be ready when its turn under the needle came. i wasn't feeling the greatest but i pushed through like we all do.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9Mk9NypkjSY/VsTtcu5kUYI/AAAAAAAAEUA/trc2JkzcNfc/s1600/IMG_4655.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9Mk9NypkjSY/VsTtcu5kUYI/AAAAAAAAEUA/trc2JkzcNfc/s400/IMG_4655.JPG" width="300" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i did a little custom quilting on this mini sewing machine quilt on the spools and the machines themselves. i used some of my Tula Pink Neptune fabric for this quilt.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sobXjpxxXw8/VsTtfMbg6-I/AAAAAAAAEUE/4GVLo3i6cPc/s1600/IMG_4662.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sobXjpxxXw8/VsTtfMbg6-I/AAAAAAAAEUE/4GVLo3i6cPc/s400/IMG_4662.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i quilted an over all stipple in the background on it and i added needles to each machine.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oo9QoMJk0z4/VsTtfz8e0bI/AAAAAAAAEUI/oF_vTIsqRQs/s1600/IMG_4663.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oo9QoMJk0z4/VsTtfz8e0bI/AAAAAAAAEUI/oF_vTIsqRQs/s400/IMG_4663.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">the back is fun to look at too. makes me smile. plus this was a quick one to get finished.</span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i was determined to get the 4th quilt top quilted by the start of the big football game a couple of Sundays ago. despite how i was feeling i pulled the fabric for the backing of quilt top number 4 and went to work. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DHQntgMC6R8/VsTtjX5ujhI/AAAAAAAAEUM/IsMxu1IrJfc/s1600/IMG_4664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DHQntgMC6R8/VsTtjX5ujhI/AAAAAAAAEUM/IsMxu1IrJfc/s400/IMG_4664.JPG" width="300" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i like how it turned out. kind of it's own quilt. i love making pieced backs because not only do you get to use up the fabric from that collection but it is also fun.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I30K-3KK-54/VsTtjTxL2dI/AAAAAAAAEUQ/oOLmS3S0n8c/s1600/FullSizeRender.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I30K-3KK-54/VsTtjTxL2dI/AAAAAAAAEUQ/oOLmS3S0n8c/s400/FullSizeRender.jpg" width="298" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i quilted this quilt with double and single loops allover it. more of a big open design so the quilt is nice to cuddle with. i finished the quilting on this right before kick-off. so 4 out of my 10 quilt tops are quilted. yeah!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">then the Monday after the big game it hit me. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i had some extreme pain on my right back flank and it was swollen and a rash was forming. i was scanning my memory to try and figure out what i had done to myself. my mind was going crazy with what might be wrong with me. since i was at work i had a co-worker look at it and she uttered the one word i never thought of 'shingles'. denial was my first reaction. there is no way i have that. but i quick trip to the minor care clinic at the hospital confirmed it. OMG let me just say that shingles are horrible. when the minor care doc told me that i would get worse before i got better she was right. i got started on an anti-viral medication which helped prevent the blisters and they say reduce the pain but i am not sure about that. i was home for 4 days straight and dang near went crazy. i was in pain. couldn't sleep much. and i don't do well sitting still. the one thing that helped me the most was ice because it would numb the area. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WgdnYi5LAb0/VsTtlM1aYxI/AAAAAAAAEUU/wzJ64WeYNnY/s1600/IMG_4682.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WgdnYi5LAb0/VsTtlM1aYxI/AAAAAAAAEUU/wzJ64WeYNnY/s400/IMG_4682.JPG" width="300" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">while home i would spend some time in my sewing area. moving stuff around. organizing. trying to feel like i accomplished something. i came across the boxcar tote pattern by Green Bee and decided that i could make that. so i pulled the fabric and interfacing one time. then another i cut everything. then another i fused it all together. little by little the tote came together. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cg_bsYo22qY/VsTtm9Zu9OI/AAAAAAAAEUY/UPsFoiSK758/s1600/IMG_4693.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cg_bsYo22qY/VsTtm9Zu9OI/AAAAAAAAEUY/UPsFoiSK758/s400/IMG_4693.JPG" width="300" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i finished it over the weekend and i really like it. its a great size and very rigid.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rm24YLK9CEY/VsTtogyFo1I/AAAAAAAAEUc/yb4zjkDljsg/s1600/IMG_4695.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rm24YLK9CEY/VsTtogyFo1I/AAAAAAAAEUc/yb4zjkDljsg/s400/IMG_4695.JPG" width="300" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i decided to use it to hold all of my hand sewing stuff. i have several zip pouches that hold the stuff now. i just put them all in the tote with plans to go back and organize it better.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xrHVWCxR7so/VsTtp4Tm8bI/AAAAAAAAEUg/lGky4w2M04w/s1600/IMG_4698.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xrHVWCxR7so/VsTtp4Tm8bI/AAAAAAAAEUg/lGky4w2M04w/s400/IMG_4698.JPG" width="300" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i also got the binding for the 4 quilts cut and ready to be put on the quilts. i use my other sewing machine for that so i think a marathon binding session will be in my future.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">in other sewing related news i will be going to quilt camp the first week of March for 5 days. i am really looking forward to this. i need to make a list of projects i want to work on and start prepping them for camp.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">what keeps you company when you sew?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">of course people have various answers to this question. from noisy to complete silence. some like to have a tv show going. some like to listen to music. some have a movie playing. some just enjoy the quiet. i find that for myself it depends upon my mood as to what if anything keeps me company when i sew. also it can depend upon what i am working on. i prefer quiet when i am reading a pattern and figuring out cutting instructions. once i have my list of what needs to be cut i am good but getting to that point can be messy if i have a distraction.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">for me a few things keep me company when i sew and so i thought i would do a blog series on the topic.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">first on my list would be Podcasts.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> i can't remember when i came across my first podcast but i have been hooked ever since. there are podcasts for everything you can imagine. i listen to sewing/quilting podcasts, NPR podcasts, a podcast from a mixed media artist, business podcasts... the list is ever evolving and expanding. here are a few.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">it has been a busy couple of weeks for me but not too busy for some sewing. i finished up the year end commitments at work that i needed to which meant some long days and chaos in my mind at times. it was worth it because i met my family at the famous little mouse's house in California for a little vacation.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zeIpITSBRt8/Vq6WY4QVlpI/AAAAAAAAER8/dJ4qk-rXgoI/s1600/IMG_4434.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zeIpITSBRt8/Vq6WY4QVlpI/AAAAAAAAER8/dJ4qk-rXgoI/s400/IMG_4434.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">have sewing will travel. i did some sewing on my Tula Pink Salt Water Hex on the Beach quilt while i waited in the airport for the other's to arrive. i think i was putting together row 18. i am almost halfway there. whoot whoot.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GHdDpqAUEqs/Vq6WhIWXCcI/AAAAAAAAESE/-4uznOtad7o/s1600/IMG_4925.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GHdDpqAUEqs/Vq6WhIWXCcI/AAAAAAAAESE/-4uznOtad7o/s640/IMG_4925.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">over the past couple weeks i have also made progress on the 10 quilt tops that i have that need to be quilted. this is the 1st one and i had fun quilting it. i did an overall loopy pattern. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X44DJYhdRLg/Vq6WjmpmRWI/AAAAAAAAESM/FofgcrTX6Hg/s1600/IMG_4928.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X44DJYhdRLg/Vq6WjmpmRWI/AAAAAAAAESM/FofgcrTX6Hg/s640/IMG_4928.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i made it to the 2nd quilt. i did some echo quilting inside of each star with matching thread. i also used the same thread for the center square of each log cabin and the pink border. i did a larger overall stipple on the rest of the quilt with a light grey thread.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o-mxAGb9NE8/Vq6Wk8G0GTI/AAAAAAAAESU/Faq8_1Ik9eM/s1600/IMG_4920.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o-mxAGb9NE8/Vq6Wk8G0GTI/AAAAAAAAESU/Faq8_1Ik9eM/s400/IMG_4920.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i have the scraps ready for both quilts to cut up and make the binding for each quilt. since i sew my binding on with a different machine i will wait until i have a couple more quilts quilted and then bind them all at once.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IGJ-sSXJRqQ/Vq6WleFESsI/AAAAAAAAESY/zmpkJ3uu-Hg/s1600/IMG_4930.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IGJ-sSXJRqQ/Vq6WleFESsI/AAAAAAAAESY/zmpkJ3uu-Hg/s400/IMG_4930.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">this is the 3rd quilt that i will be quilting. it is a mini but it is counted in my 10 tops that need quilted. i will be using 5 different colors of thread on this one because its Tula and its NEPTUNE. need i say more?</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1j7obxj0hdE/Vq6WnKEGCAI/AAAAAAAAESk/b7WDb0LCi7s/s1600/IMG_4933.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1j7obxj0hdE/Vq6WnKEGCAI/AAAAAAAAESk/b7WDb0LCi7s/s400/IMG_4933.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i have started on it......</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8K0hTTIsj3Q/Vq6Wn3jVV6I/AAAAAAAAESs/Okxxw6tO3DU/s1600/IMG_4942.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8K0hTTIsj3Q/Vq6Wn3jVV6I/AAAAAAAAESs/Okxxw6tO3DU/s400/IMG_4942.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i hope to finish the quilting on it this week. i think that is a reasonable goal given the size of it. LOL</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LtJu-HfvB34/Vq6WrLwWbqI/AAAAAAAAES0/yzGW9LfJ4Fc/s1600/IMG_5616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LtJu-HfvB34/Vq6WrLwWbqI/AAAAAAAAES0/yzGW9LfJ4Fc/s400/IMG_5616.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">this was the last day at Disneyland. we were all tired but we all had a great time. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i got row 18 together on the trip and so i have started sewing it to row 17. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i have made a tiny bit of progress on my quilts to be quilted list. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9Q462EFRJqc/VpkKfayXvXI/AAAAAAAAERU/Tej5-XSc6PE/s1600/IMG_1348.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9Q462EFRJqc/VpkKfayXvXI/AAAAAAAAERU/Tej5-XSc6PE/s400/IMG_1348.JPG" width="300" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">this is a super quick pattern that i got with a kit and i put it together at the November quilt camp that i went to. i won't be adding the applique flowers to my quilt top.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-22AgGtNHJBU/VpkKgEv8InI/AAAAAAAAERY/rHka30xCk14/s1600/IMG_1346.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-22AgGtNHJBU/VpkKgEv8InI/AAAAAAAAERY/rHka30xCk14/s400/IMG_1346.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">this is a fun bright quilt top with some yellow and bright lime green. i think it will be fun and easy to quilt. i am thinking of doing an overall stipple in the middle and then something different in each border. i plan on doing a scrappy binding with the leftover fabric.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--aGknMMX2aE/VpkKhq5xpzI/AAAAAAAAERk/Sq34ZMg6RBk/s1600/IMG_4418.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--aGknMMX2aE/VpkKhq5xpzI/AAAAAAAAERk/Sq34ZMg6RBk/s400/IMG_4418.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i got the backing for it figured out and it is ready to go. i just need to cut the batting and baste it. i plan on doing that this evening during a virtual sew in. if all goes well i will get some quilting done on it as well.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gc91Eb-V3ec/VpkK1Mbq9pI/AAAAAAAAERs/BcXwa1rJ7j4/s1600/IMG_4420.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gc91Eb-V3ec/VpkK1Mbq9pI/AAAAAAAAERs/BcXwa1rJ7j4/s400/IMG_4420.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i also have dug back into my Tula Pink Saltwater EPP project. i have it organized into a system that works well for me and i am currently working on row 17 or 18 - i can't remember. anyways there are 40 rows total so i am almost to the half way point. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">thanks for stopping by and i hope that you are making progress on whatever it is that you are working on.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">happy sewing</span></div>
<br />Renegade Quilterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18424098195914473142noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1043664969887157589.post-34588551121257143402016-01-10T14:52:00.000-08:002016-01-11T06:41:00.928-08:00Quilt Tops Galore<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">wow..... i am surprised that i even remember how to upload pictures or even do a blog post. i guess its kind of like riding a bike..... LOL i looked and my last post was sometime in February of last year. so much has happened in that time frame. a lifetime of challenges and i am pretty sure i have aged 10 years in the past year. thank God for quilting. it has been my escape from reality and always helps me find my center which is good. i think i have said this about 5 times on here but i will say it again. i am going to attempt to get back to blogging on a random basis. i would like to blog a couple times a month which totally seems reasonable. right? i will see.....</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i really thought i was doing a good job of keeping the number of quilt tops needing quilted in check. i thought i had it under control and i was WRONG. i have several quilt tops that need quilted and by several i mean 10!!!! that might not be a lot for some quilters but for me it is. i am mildly overwhelmed by that number and so i hope to reduce that number by getting them quilted.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">above is a log cabin star quilt on top that i made with a Noteworthy jelly roll. the middle quilt is a Strip Search quilt that i made with a Salt Air jelly roll. the bottom quilt is my Single Girl quilt top which once it was put together i discovered a mistake. i didn't read the instructions for sewing the blocks together and sewed them with a quarter inch seam allowance so my rings don't touch. i was suppose to sew them together with a half inch seam allowance. i am 99.8% sure that i will take the top apart and redo the seams so the rings touch. its a quilt i am keeping and i know it will drive me nuts if i don't fix it.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">the quilt on the top came in a kit that i got at a quilt camp a year or so ago. it went together super quick and it is a throw size. more then likely this will be a charity quilt. the quilt on the bottom i just finished. its my <a href="http://ohfransson.bigcartel.com/product/aviatrix-medallion-pdf-quilt-pattern" target="_blank">Aviatrix Medallion</a> quilt made with Kona solids and Essex linen. it will be an epic quilt for me to quilt. lots of thread changes and custom quilting. it might be on the 'to be quilted' list for awhile.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">now we get to my <strike>obsession</strike> love of <a href="http://www.tulapink.com/" target="_blank">Tula Pink's</a> fabric. the top quilt is a fat quarter friendly quilt made from Moonshine. i love the pattern that i used because it has big pieces in it and so it shows off the fabric really well. the middle quilt is my 100 Good Wishes quilt that i made using Tula's City Sampler book. the top has been together for some time i just need to get around to quilting it. i really like this quilt because it uses most all of Tula's fabric lines in it. on the bottom of the pile is what i am calling my Tula Pink log cabin Beads quilt. it was a kit that i got from <a href="http://www.myfabricstash.com/" target="_blank">Stash</a> in Walla Walla, WA. they made the pattern for a magazine and it was on the cover. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">need i say more? one of my all time favorite Tula lines of fabric. i thought this mini sewing machine quilt would be a great use for Neptune. once i get it quilted and finished i plan on hanging on a wall in my sewing room.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">the 10th and final quilt that needs quilting is my Tula Pink Prince Charming Dwell quilt. i have always wanted to do a house quilt and when i saw the Dwell pattern i knew that was it. originally i was going to use a few of Tula's lines in it but i eventually settled on Prince Charming. this quilt will join my mini sewing machine quilt in my sewing room when it is finished.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">With life at a simmer and sort of getting back to normal I decided to get out my <a href="http://www.tulapink.com/" target="_blank">Tula Pink</a> City Sampler quilt and finish up the last 25 blocks. I love this book and how Tula put it together. The blocks are nameless and you the creator get to name each of the 100 blocks. As I have said in previous posts I have named my quilt The 100 Good Wishes Quilt. Each block named after a good wish. I was inspired by a necklace I have that has 100 beads on it for 100 good wishes.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pssD6fLCedc/VOE7qioktbI/AAAAAAAAEMA/dII5m0B8ZWw/s1600/2.15.15a%2B020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pssD6fLCedc/VOE7qioktbI/AAAAAAAAEMA/dII5m0B8ZWw/s1600/2.15.15a%2B020.JPG" height="298" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have done my best to stick as close as possible to the fabric/color choices that Tula did on her cover quilt. I normally don't do this however I love the rainbow effect the placement of the blocks gives this quilt.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I cut the fabric for the last 25 blocks and put the pieces of fabric in the book with the block that they went with. I made a huge mess getting out and going through my Tula stash in the process of doing this. Once I got done cutting I decided to have a mini Tula destash sale over on Instagram which is a whole other topic. Gesh....</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Prior to cutting the setting fabric I had decided that I did not want my sashing to finish at 2". I did not want that much space between these blocks. At first I thought 1 1/2" finished sashing would be nice but....... that was too much for me. So I have landed on 1" sashing and 3" finished borders. In my head it looks amazing and I hope that it sews out to be amazing.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I cut up the setting fabric and took my quilt off the design wall labeling each row. I tucked everything into a plastic bin where it will remain until quilt retreat the first week of March. I am super excited to see my 100 Good Wishes Blocks become a Good Wishes quilt.</span></div>

I have sandwiched my <a href="http://www.tulapink.com/" target="_blank">Tula Pink</a> Fox Field Mystery quilt and it is ready to be quilted. I am really trying to stay on top of my quilting this year by not having a pile up of tops that need to be quilted. Besides this one I think I have 3 others that need quilting. I think. There might be more but I know its no less than 3. Oh... wait... I just remembered another one so there is at least 4.......</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I was given the travel mug below as a late Christmas gift. With life being busy it was awhile before I stopped and read the words printed on the side of it.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_rrTubfvxho/VMlCfaFpYyI/AAAAAAAAELc/ulII7rE4wag/s1600/1.28.15%2B003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_rrTubfvxho/VMlCfaFpYyI/AAAAAAAAELc/ulII7rE4wag/s1600/1.28.15%2B003.JPG" height="400" width="176" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">Shout out to <a href="http://www.dutchbros.com/" target="_blank">Dutch Bros. Coffee</a> I love this place. It doesn't matter which city I am in each location of Dutch Bros. Coffee delivers the same high quality customer service and great coffee. And, no they did not pay me to say that.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The 'Creed' as Dutch Bros refers to it is what is on the side of my travel mug and it reads as follows....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To be so <b><span style="color: purple; font-size: large;">strong</span></b> that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To talk <span style="color: blue; font-size: large;">health, happiness & prosperity</span> to every person you meet.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To make all your friends <b>feel there is something in them</b>.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To look at the <span style="color: lime; font-size: large;"><b>sunny side</b></span> of everything and <b><span style="font-size: large;">make your optimism come true</span></b>.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To <span style="color: #666666; font-size: large;"><b>think</b></span> only the best. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #666666; font-size: large;"><b>Work</b></span> only for the best. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And <span style="color: #666666; font-size: large;"><b>expect</b></span> only the best.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To be just as <span style="color: magenta; font-size: large;"><b style="background-color: white;">enthusiastic</b></span> about the success of others as you are about your own.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To <span style="font-size: large;"><b>forget</b></span> the mistakes of the past & press on to the <b><span style="color: #0b5394; font-size: large;">greater achievements of the future</span></b>.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To wear a <span style="color: lime; font-size: large;">cheerful</span> countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a <span style="color: red; font-size: large;"><b>smile</b></span>.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To give so much time to the <span style="color: purple; font-size: large;">improvement of yourself</span> that you have <span style="font-size: large;"><b>no time</b></span> to criticize others.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To be <span style="color: blue; font-size: large;">too large</span> for worry.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To be <span style="color: blue; font-size: large;">too noble</span> for anger.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To be <span style="color: blue; font-size: large;">too strong</span> for fear </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">and <span style="color: blue; font-size: large;">too happy</span> to permit the presence of trouble.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have kept this creed in mind for the past 7 days as our family has dealt with a great loss. Several people have said that God doesn't give you more than you can handle and I am a believer of that. As the past week unfolded I wasn't sure where the strength was going to come from but it did. I made it through the long days and I was able to help where needed and support my family just as they have supported me in the past. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I don't have a mantra that I say everyday but I have been reading the side of my travel mug daily and every time the creed has struck a cord with me. It reminds me to be the best me that I can be and to live the best life that I can live. </span><br />

M<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">y friend Sarah who blogs at <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Confessions Of A Fabric Addict</a> does an amazing charity quilt challenge each year. Its the Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge and this year prior to the start of the challenge she is hosting a <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/2015/01/join-sweet-sixteen-quilt-along.html?showComment=1421091902178#c3005206341439672449" target="_blank">quilt along</a>. For the quilt along Sarah is having us make <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/2015/01/join-sweet-sixteen-quilt-along.html?showComment=1421091902178#c3005206341439672449" target="_blank">16 patch blocks</a> and then over the next several weeks she is showing us different ways to set those blocks in a quilt top. I (think) that I have always participated in the H2H Charity Quilt Challenge and I have always enjoyed the process and paying it forward with quilts. So when Sarah announced the quilt along I had to jump on board.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M30Tad7jjU4/VLw8b998o1I/AAAAAAAAEKk/WpMw_6xqH8Q/s1600/1.18.15%2B001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M30Tad7jjU4/VLw8b998o1I/AAAAAAAAEKk/WpMw_6xqH8Q/s1600/1.18.15%2B001.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For the 16 patches I went digging through my stash. Like many quilters out there I am trying to sew from my stash as much as possible this year. For my first set of blocks I decided to use up some of my pinkish fabrics. They range from the notorious paper doll fabric to some floral fabric. LOL</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sarah's instructions for the various methods of constructing the blocks has you using 2 1/2" squares or strips. The same instructions can be used for any size of squares or strips and so based on my fabric I decided to cut my strips at 4".</span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OYsq3pFoYCk/VLw8fo616EI/AAAAAAAAEK0/SJHDYJt5HbQ/s1600/1.18.15%2B008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OYsq3pFoYCk/VLw8fo616EI/AAAAAAAAEK0/SJHDYJt5HbQ/s1600/1.18.15%2B008.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">These 16 patch blocks go together quickly especially when using the strips of fabric method to construct them. I made a couple of strip sets cut them up and made some blocks to see what they looked like.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WzCf8JbLZPw/VLw8dXZjiLI/AAAAAAAAEKs/_2hxrysJNI4/s1600/1.18.15%2B005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WzCf8JbLZPw/VLw8dXZjiLI/AAAAAAAAEKs/_2hxrysJNI4/s1600/1.18.15%2B005.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I sort of flew by the seat of my pants putting this one together. No real plan. I sewed up some strip sets. Made some blocks and put them up on the design wall. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--IwYl_t_J0g/VLw8hSH6idI/AAAAAAAAEK8/rOqGmMHSNQY/s1600/1.18.15%2B014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--IwYl_t_J0g/VLw8hSH6idI/AAAAAAAAEK8/rOqGmMHSNQY/s1600/1.18.15%2B014.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I love my design wall. I played around with the layout of the blocks. I don't have the greatest light in my sewing area but it works for an overall layout.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aKXCoGxEO9M/VLw8iwhEg1I/AAAAAAAAELA/YLydfAzbYHU/s1600/1.18.15%2B016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aKXCoGxEO9M/VLw8iwhEg1I/AAAAAAAAELA/YLydfAzbYHU/s1600/1.18.15%2B016.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I decided on this for the final layout. Just putting the blocks together side by side. Sarah has a layout on her blog using <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/2015/01/sweet-sixteen-quilt-along-sixteens.html" target="_blank">pinwheels</a>. I love how the 16 patches look with the pinwheels and I think that is what I will do with the fabric below.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KxdIN6Ag0IA/VLw8lurub-I/AAAAAAAAELM/Ww-WwwLcwbE/s1600/1.18.15%2B019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KxdIN6Ag0IA/VLw8lurub-I/AAAAAAAAELM/Ww-WwwLcwbE/s1600/1.18.15%2B019.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I got most of this fabric from a friend who was cleaning out her fabric so its fitting that it ends up in an H2H quilt. I think that I will cut 2 1/2" strips for this quilt.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I encourage you to hop over to <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/2015/01/sweet-sixteen-quilt-along-sixteens.html" target="_blank">Sarah's blog</a> and check it out. The 16 patch blocks are fun to make and its for a great cause. Its also a good way to sew your stash.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I sew in a corner in the basement of my mom's house. After my dad passed away I started staying with my mom and then I sold my house and so for now I live with her. My sewing area in my old house was the basement family room which gave me a lot of space to spread out. At my mom's I have a tight compact area but it still gets the job done.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Like I said this is my mom's house. There is wallpaper on every wall in the house except for a handful. My mom had wallpaper put up so she didn't have to paint because she doesn't like to paint. To each their own. I can live with it. It just makes for an interesting background in pictures. As shown below.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MuE3LSGdWXY/VK_pyDtT2DI/AAAAAAAAEJw/0SfC4K5S59k/s1600/1.8.15%2B014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MuE3LSGdWXY/VK_pyDtT2DI/AAAAAAAAEJw/0SfC4K5S59k/s1600/1.8.15%2B014.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So here is my corner. I brought the main tables from my house and set them up here. The drafting table I use for cutting and I love it because its higher up and my back doesn't get as tired when I am cutting. Then I have two 6 foot tables that complete the U shape. Like I said its tight but it works.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Xo64-4k0W9s/VK_p0z5l1sI/AAAAAAAAEJ4/gUBii-MEXug/s1600/1.8.15%2B013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Xo64-4k0W9s/VK_p0z5l1sI/AAAAAAAAEJ4/gUBii-MEXug/s1600/1.8.15%2B013.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In the far corner of my cutting table I have a couple pin cushions. One that I use and one that a friend made for me that is too pretty to use but I smile every time I look at it. The stitches on it are amazing. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I also keep my cutting tools, small rulers, lint roller and note pads in a basket with tin cups. I use the striped mini round bin for tiny scraps and such. I got it from Thirty-One and I love it. Its portable and it saves me from cleaning up because when I attempt to put tiny scraps into the trash can on the floor they never end up in the trash can. I am always cleaning up the mess and usually hitting my head on the cutting table. This little bin has eliminated that. So yeah!!!</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NfDQMnCFKA4/VK_p3j61_kI/AAAAAAAAEKA/XpN59YHmLz8/s1600/1.8.15%2B015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NfDQMnCFKA4/VK_p3j61_kI/AAAAAAAAEKA/XpN59YHmLz8/s1600/1.8.15%2B015.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Just a different view point. I keep my sewing notions, a small cutting mat and usually a small pressing mat to my left. On the right side of my sewing machine is another cutting mat that just hangs out there. It travels to quilt retreats with me. I use the space mainly for projects and fabric sorting/selection. Under the table is a tote full of scraps sorted by color and another storage container of larger scraps.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GedO-Mh35FI/VK_p5dv9jvI/AAAAAAAAEKI/aQ0KwaaWnKo/s1600/1.8.15%2B009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GedO-Mh35FI/VK_p5dv9jvI/AAAAAAAAEKI/aQ0KwaaWnKo/s1600/1.8.15%2B009.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I kinda have a thing for owls and these work great to hold a few sewing notions and such. The one with the Clover clips on it is a chalk board but I am tempted to cover it with a magnet and have it hold pins. Good idea or no?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A mini quilt that I made using <a href="http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/" target="_blank">Jaybird's</a> <a href="http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2014/01/new-mini-hex-n-more-mini-patterns.html" target="_blank">Mini Hex N More</a> ruler and one of her patterns. The 'Simplify' sign I picked up at a quilt retreat last fall and the other sign was a gift from a friend. I love the quote on it. Its a great reminder. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Its not much but it adds a little of me to my sewing area and makes it a little easier to tolerate the wallpaper. LOL</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">You might wonder where my 'stash' is. I store my fabric in a couple bedroom closets. I am one of those that believes fabric should be kept out of direct light so it doesn't fade or deteriorate. I have seen this happen and its sad. I would love to have my fabric out where I could see it. Sort of display it like I see many people do but I don't use fabric quickly enough for that. My fabric is treated like really good wine. It has to age and it has to be the 'right' project for me to cut into it. Therefore its kept in a dark spot until the time is right. Just like wine.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I hope you enjoyed seeing my little sewing area. Where do you sew? Do you have a room or a corner like me or maybe the dining room table? I would love to know.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Happy Sewing</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Where in the world did 2014 go? I feel like I have asked that question for the past couple of years now. Might be a sign to take and breath and slow down.</span><br />
<br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A lot of my time the first part of 2014 was spent getting caught up at work and working on estates and learning way too much about the crap that goes along with all of that. I also focused on getting my legs back underneath myself. Finding my new place in this new chapter of my life. A word of advice with regards to estates people. Get your crap together, tell the people that need to know about your crap after your gone and put a willing and knowledgeable person in-charge of your crap when your gone. Life will be hard enough when your gone you don't need to make it any harder. Seriously it's not fun when the one you have questions for is no longer here or the one in-charge has no idea what to do. </span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It wasn't until the last half of 2014 that I did get back into sewing on a regular basis. That is probably why I only had 8 blog posts last year. Pathetic. I know. I do have some finishes that I want to go back and blog about. I need to get pictures and such but that is going on my 'to blog about' list. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">2014 was a roller-coaster of a ride with some great times scattered in with the challenges. I got to attend 3 quilt retreats, visit the city of New Orleans to catch a couple of Dave shows, a trip with a friend to Bend to see Dave and hit the quilt shops and I also saw Philip Phillips with my brother and SIL in Boise. Looking back I have some pretty great memories that make me smile. I will take the good with the not so good.</span><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Last year I picked the word 'possible' for my word of the year. Last year was a challenging year for me but I did things and worked through things that in all honesty I thought were impossible. With those challenges I learned and I became stronger so I am grateful for that. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have a word for 2015 and that is ACTION. Not much can be accomplished without action. So I am looking forward to this year getting things done through taking action. Not sitting watching the world pass me by but instead making things happen by TAKING ACTION.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">my life has been creeping back to normal ever so slowly.... or at least my new normal. i have also been sewing. which is like therapy for me. so i am happy, happy, happy.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">out in the blogland, instagram, twitter, and other such communities on the internet i came across Elizabeth from <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/" target="_blank">Oh, Fransson!</a> pattern for her Aviatrix Medallion quilt and she is having a <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2014/04/aviatrix-medallion-quilt-along-1.html#more" target="_blank">quilt along</a> for</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> it. i got the pattern from her site which i highly recommend this pattern. its a stunner. Elizabeth originally made it using solids - Kona from <a href="http://www.robertkaufman.com/" target="_blank">Robert Kaufman</a> to be exact.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i have never done a quilt out of solids. i really liked the colors that Elizabeth used in her original quilt but i didn't love them. then Elizabeth announced that she got to put together some Kona bundles and i fell in love with her Winter one. the bundles are not out yet but if you go to the Robert Kaufman site it lists the various Kona colors that make up each bundle. so, i did some shopping and i had the Winter colors and jumped right in.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i love it. flipping head over heels in love with it. of course i did not use white as the accent color i took Elizabeth's recommendation and did not use black but i did use Kona Pepper.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mgJMDjsycL0/U6ICuD4G-rI/AAAAAAAAEBQ/aStPaZ2DtCs/s1600/iPhone+6.18.14+008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mgJMDjsycL0/U6ICuD4G-rI/AAAAAAAAEBQ/aStPaZ2DtCs/s1600/iPhone+6.18.14+008.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i spent a day cutting the fabric for this quilt and grouping it into border sections as suggested by Elizabeth. you might think '<b>a whole day</b>' - keep in mind i woke up late, ate some meals, did some laundry, might have watched some tv. so for focused people it might be a few hours of cutting. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i used the same Essex yarn-dyed linen as per Elizabeth's suggestion for the background fabric which i have never used before. i love it as well - it is great to sew with.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">this is the center of the quilt. all on the bias. lets just say that starch was my friend when i put this together and i am pleased as punch with how it turned out. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">its time for Hands2Help! hosted by Sarah from <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Confessions of a Fabric Addict</a>. i must confess. the quilts i am donating this year have come from my stash of quilts. they haven't seen the light of day for sometime. somewhere in the process of making them i fell out of love with them. i like them just fine but don't love them like they deserve to be loved. so they go to the quilt stash which i pull from as the need arises. as such is the case with Hands2Help!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x48TxGUOw9c/U5Jmi5VPiNI/AAAAAAAAD-0/qonLcCkrCu0/s1600/6.6.14+039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x48TxGUOw9c/U5Jmi5VPiNI/AAAAAAAAD-0/qonLcCkrCu0/s1600/6.6.14+039.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i love using my passion for quilting to make others happy. i think i have participated in Hands2Help! since Sarah first started it. i might be wrong but.... </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">anyways, when i saw Sarah's post about it this year i knew that i was going to participate but that the quilts would come from my stash.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eD5Fd1_imw0/U5JmpBx0BoI/AAAAAAAAD_M/RrpSUnFRsu4/s1600/6.6.14+036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eD5Fd1_imw0/U5JmpBx0BoI/AAAAAAAAD_M/RrpSUnFRsu4/s1600/6.6.14+036.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">this first quilt was a mystery quilt i started 10 years ago. it has been finished for about 3 or 4 years. at the time i started it i had never done a mystery quilt and i also did not know i do not like white as a background fabric. i do now. i hope that whoever gets this quilt will give it the proper love it deserves. this quilt will be going to someone who was impacted by Hurricane Sandy.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WpfDcZQfQ_A/U5JmtFydJ-I/AAAAAAAAD_U/P7T2WtsW-5Y/s1600/6.6.14+033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WpfDcZQfQ_A/U5JmtFydJ-I/AAAAAAAAD_U/P7T2WtsW-5Y/s1600/6.6.14+033.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">this next quilt has about 8 million pieces in it. not really. but when i started it i was sure i would never finish it. i think that is when i stopped loving it. yep, right from the start i knew it wasn't meant to be mine. i finished it anyways. i am like that. i rarely get rid of a WIP. self torture? maybe. i just like to finish things. this quilt will find a new home through Happy Chemo.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cfW49Hz6xR8/U5Jmvojt0EI/AAAAAAAAD_g/povom9pNxVg/s1600/6.6.14+035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cfW49Hz6xR8/U5Jmvojt0EI/AAAAAAAAD_g/povom9pNxVg/s1600/6.6.14+035.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">true confession on this quilt. it was a BOM from JoAnn's that was on clearance for almost nothing. i like to call these BOM quilts 'quilting for dummies' - not insulting anyone at all with that comment - the fabric comes pre-cut and the instructions are fail proof. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9xygHKAcpso/U5JmxCFIu6I/AAAAAAAAD_s/4WqTza3o4xo/s1600/6.6.14+034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9xygHKAcpso/U5JmxCFIu6I/AAAAAAAAD_s/4WqTza3o4xo/s1600/6.6.14+034.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">yes there is applique involved and even a little embroidery so its not really 'quilting for dummies' but that is just my name for those things. i made this quilt thinking i would give it to my oldest niece. that didn't happen so it went into the quilt stash. this quilt will meet up with its new owner through Quilts of Compassion Disaster Response Team.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">there you have it. my contribution to this years Hands2Help!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i love the thought that these quilts will bring comfort and warmth to another person during a trying time in their life.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">two posts in one day. don't pass out. its all ok.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">in looking at my previous entries for the <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/bloggers-quilt-festival/" target="_blank">Blogger's Quilt Festival</a> i discovered that i had yet to enter one of my favorite quilts.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">my <span style="font-size: large;">Cartwheels</span> quilt</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">pattern by <a href="http://www.tulapink.com/" target="_blank">Tula Pink</a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--VzJrDH__Kw/U3pcN5XAhBI/AAAAAAAAD8Y/WifE120J98c/s1600/5.18.14+007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--VzJrDH__Kw/U3pcN5XAhBI/AAAAAAAAD8Y/WifE120J98c/s1600/5.18.14+007.JPG" height="640" width="592" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i have done blog posts about this quilt before but never for the Festival. i am entering this in the 'modern' category of the Festival. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i started this quilt in a class at Sisters taught by Tula. the class was a blast i took it with a friend of mine. i used Tula's Prince Charming line for the quilt and a background fabric that reminded me of water. truth be told i had a whole other background fabric in mind when i started picking fabric. it was a directional print and matching the repeat would have never happened. so the night (yes, i said the night) before i was to leave for Sisters i went and found the blue background fabric.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">of course i had to include a pic of that day.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i3hZHgKTX1M/U3pcQZbBXEI/AAAAAAAAD8g/Gs2u2F4FppI/s1600/5.18.14+009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i3hZHgKTX1M/U3pcQZbBXEI/AAAAAAAAD8g/Gs2u2F4FppI/s1600/5.18.14+009.JPG" height="352" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i absolutely love how the 'cartwheels' look against the background fabric. i have had several people tell me they look like life preservers floating in water. its such a bright and fun quilt.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wQphkJ7qK2o/U3pcWnr2YII/AAAAAAAAD8s/h13j3Gr4bgY/s1600/5.18.14+010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wQphkJ7qK2o/U3pcWnr2YII/AAAAAAAAD8s/h13j3Gr4bgY/s1600/5.18.14+010.JPG" height="640" width="616" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i fussy cut the frogs in the blocks that i used that fabric in. i try and do this with other projects. it so fun seeing them all in a circle.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-78Iz3FFiWoQ/U3pcnk1757I/AAAAAAAAD9M/ErZfNQOENLI/s1600/5.18.14+014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-78Iz3FFiWoQ/U3pcnk1757I/AAAAAAAAD9M/ErZfNQOENLI/s1600/5.18.14+014.JPG" height="640" width="568" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">like most of my quilts i pieced the back of it. no set plan just get the back big enough for the quilt top. i quilted it myself on my home machine. i did a variety of quilting patterns in each Cartwheel. it was a good quilt to work on for improving my quilting techniques because i was not giving the quilt away. that whole favorite fabric thing again. i also used the same color of thread in the top and the bobbin so the quilting almost creates another pattern on the back of the quilt. at least that is what i tell myself.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dmcr1Py6eDU/U3pcXqpbinI/AAAAAAAAD80/weBrrH2VFXU/s1600/5.18.14+011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dmcr1Py6eDU/U3pcXqpbinI/AAAAAAAAD80/weBrrH2VFXU/s1600/5.18.14+011.JPG" height="346" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i am very happy with this quilt and i love it. i pushed myself outside of my comfort zone and i am pleased with the results. this quilt brings back happy memories of that trip and the class. when i look at it i can't help but smile.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i know its been forever since i have written a blog post. lots and lots of life going on over here. selling my house which took 100+ days but is finally done. packing and putting things in storage with no idea as to how long they will be there. settling into my new space which is much smaller then my house was. also dealing will multiple family/life issues and work. whew. so that is my story and i hope to be here more often now that things/life are starting to slow a tiny bit.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">so when i was reminded about <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/bloggers-quilt-festival/" target="_blank">Blogger's Quilt Festival</a> i knew i wanted to enter a quilt or two into it. i went and checked out Amy's website and saw that there is a Mini Quilt Category. i knew right away which quilt i wanted to enter into that category.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i knew i wanted to use my <a href="http://www.tulapink.com/" target="_blank">Tula Pink</a> stash for this quilt. so i went digging and came up with some Neptune, Salt Water and Nightshade. i am so funny about my Tula fabrics. i both love and hate to use them. silly i know. i want to keep them forever but i also want to make things with them. do you all have fabric that you feel that way about?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i reasoned with myself that if i make a mini quilt with it that i can hang it on my wall and enjoy it and not worry (as much) about it wearing out with use. i know total dork. quilts are meant to be used and mine do get used. blah. blah. blah.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i had fun putting the fabrics together and sewing up this quilt. it was a quick fun mini quilt to make. now i can see why mini quilts are becoming so popular.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">funny story. my brother and his family were home for a visit while i was working on this quilt and my brother asked me if i bought the rows of the 8 fabrics already sewn together. when i told him no and that i cut each piece out using the Mini Hex N More ruler and sewed them together my brother told me i was nuts. LOL</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i did single fold binding on this quilt which is something that i have never done before. i also hand stitched it down which i normally don't do but since there was only 59" to bind i thought i could handle it. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i even used some Neptune on the back of the quilt. i quilted this by just following the jagged lines of the seams that the pattern makes. i really am happy with it. it shows off the pattern well.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">some of you may or may not know that i knit. i took a class about 9 years ago and have never really ventured past scarves and dish cloths. a few months ago my SIL showed me how to knit with the 'funky yarn' (my term because i can't remember the real name). so for Christmas i knitted 6 of these scarves as gifts for people. the 6th one is a solid soft grey. i didn't get a picture of that one. i think i finished it the day after Christmas and gave it to my mom.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i also knitted two other scarves or should i say cowls for Christmas gifts as well. i kept seeing them on instagram and found a couple patterns that i could do. again no pics. however, i am pleased with how they turned out. with that being said i am wanting to venture out of the 'safe zone' of knitting and so on my recent trip to</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">one down many to go...... i got my Cargo Duffle bag finished. it was one of the last items on my <a href="http://renegadequilter.blogspot.com/2014/01/2014-quilty-goals.html" target="_blank">2014 Quilty Goals</a> list. i had most everything cut and ready i just needed to sew.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TJjNog2p2a0/UtWfsjd3SCI/AAAAAAAAD0g/KCGCEFHBEQI/s1600/ipad+163.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TJjNog2p2a0/UtWfsjd3SCI/AAAAAAAAD0g/KCGCEFHBEQI/s400/ipad+163.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i quilted the panels using warm and natural in the middle and duck cloth as the backing/lining. i used duck cloth in a couple bags i made for Christmas gifts and love how it holds its shape and gives durability to the bag.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sNmyvX7QNTI/UtWf7zsgZfI/AAAAAAAAD1A/jh74UaP-9Sc/s1600/ipad+177.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sNmyvX7QNTI/UtWf7zsgZfI/AAAAAAAAD1A/jh74UaP-9Sc/s400/ipad+177.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">using the duck cloth does make pinning a challenge so i used Clover clips and i love them. they worked well on this bag.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4VYPMnvPAE4/UtWf-QFb1DI/AAAAAAAAD1I/5FNz9kWOIhw/s1600/ipad+174.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4VYPMnvPAE4/UtWf-QFb1DI/AAAAAAAAD1I/5FNz9kWOIhw/s400/ipad+174.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">having made several bags i tend not to always follow the patterns as well as i should. i know. i know. practice what i preach. read the directions. my lack of reading came back to bite me in the ass on this bag. oh well. i made the handles for this bag how i like to make handles. using interfacing and some fusible fleece as well as nylon webbing. i find that it turns out a really sturdy handle that doesn't stretch out as much.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Iidlu87sKA/UtWgBWrrw-I/AAAAAAAAD1Q/K2_RzXwJzrY/s1600/ipad+170.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Iidlu87sKA/UtWgBWrrw-I/AAAAAAAAD1Q/K2_RzXwJzrY/s400/ipad+170.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">putting the zipper in was fairly easy with the gusset and such but this is also where i messed up and ended up with the gusset opening being a little bit smaller then the side panels. rather then un-sew and fix the problem i just modified it and added a few pleats to each side. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5fP15gIabHY/UtWgFHOreHI/AAAAAAAAD1Y/owsfVbNQ0MQ/s1600/ipad+186.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5fP15gIabHY/UtWgFHOreHI/AAAAAAAAD1Y/owsfVbNQ0MQ/s400/ipad+186.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">the inside seams are bound and the duck cloth is the lining on the bag.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JUgUIWCyI8s/UtWgInKotOI/AAAAAAAAD1k/a9sDBEKz5MY/s1600/ipad+182.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JUgUIWCyI8s/UtWgInKotOI/AAAAAAAAD1k/a9sDBEKz5MY/s400/ipad+182.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">as you can see the bag has really nice shape and structure to it with two outside pockets which are nice. i doubt the bag is big enough for me for a weekend getaway bag. maybe an overnight bag.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IGZI1VhvyaE/UtWgKGrctsI/AAAAAAAAD1w/yxOMRF1AqY8/s1600/2photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IGZI1VhvyaE/UtWgKGrctsI/AAAAAAAAD1w/yxOMRF1AqY8/s400/2photo.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">right now i have all of my knitting in it. it is working out great for that. this is a bag that i will make again and yes i will read all of the directions and get the next one right.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">i have also been working on an old WIP using Origins. i have all of the blocks trimmed and the layout is ready.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds are playing at the historic and newly renovated <a href="http://www.saengernola.com/" target="_blank">Saenger Theatre</a> for not 1 but 2 nights and yes by the grace of God i have tickets for both nights. when these shows were announced last year my wheels (aka my brain) starting turning to see what i could make happen. i will save you the drama and just say that i made it a possibility and now i am going. if you are a regular reader you know of my love of his music. i love the band in concert as well however him with Tim is my favorite. so i will escape reality for a bit because i know it will be there when i get back and i will enjoy every minute of my Dave inspired vacation.</span></div>
